Janus net up 57 pct, beats expectations

(Reuters) - BOSTON, July 26 - Money manager Janus Capital Group Inc. posted a 57 percent jump in second-quarter profit on Thursday, beating analysts' expectations, as its funds attracted inflows and assets under management grew.



Janus, which specializes in the "growth" style of investing, said it posted long-term net inflows of $2.8 billion in the quarter, including $1.5 billion in its core products.

GE issues credit card aimed to cut emissions

(Reuters) - In voluntary emissions markets, consumers who feel guilty about their greenhouse emissions can buy offsets, or credits, designed to represent emissions reductions that took place somewhere else, like a solar or wind power farm.




"Earth Rewards cardholders will now have a new tool to complement the ways they are already reducing their emissions," Tom Gentile, an executive at GE Money said in a release. "They can turn everyday purchases into extraordinary rewards."

Massachusetts fund to sell stocks of Sudan-related firms

(Reuters) - Massachusetts' state pension fund, one of America's biggest and most successful, plans to sell some $80 million in holdings of companies that invest in Sudan, becoming the latest investor to protest violence there.

"Money managers who invest for us and own stocks like Schlumberger (Ltd.) and PetroChina (Co. Ltd.) will be selling those holdings," Michael Travaglini, executive director of the $50.3 billion Massachusetts' Pension Reserves Investment Management Board (PRIM) fund, told Reuters. "In total we expect it will be about $80 million," he said.

UPDATE 1-U.S. money market fund assets set record

(Reuters) - "Assets of U.S. money-market funds kept rising ever-higher
during the week ended July 10," said the report published by
iMoneyNet Inc.




Taxable assets jumped $10.4 billion to a record $2.1
trillion, while tax-free assets rose $10.2 billion to a record
$414 billion.

UPDATE 1-GE's WMC subprime unit says sells $3 bln in loans

(Reuters) - BOSTON, July 3 - General Electric Co.'s
subprime lending arm WMC Mortgage sold about $3 billion in
nonprime loans in the second quarter, lowering the volume of
loans on its books to about $1.5 billion, a company spokesman
said on Tuesday.




The loans sold included a mix of first and second liens,
said GE Money spokesman Michael Ettlemyer.

Philippine Remittances Increase at the Fastest Pace in 4 Months in March

(Bloomberg) -- Remittances from Filipinos working
abroad rose in April at the fastest pace in four months as more
people found jobs overseas.

Money sent back to the Philippines rose 32.6 percent from a
year earlier to $1.2 billion, the central bank said in a
statement in Manila today. That's the fastest pace since
December and follows a 26.4 percent gain in March.
