Oil extends decline, falls 1 pct on poor U.S. data

(Reuters) - U.S. crude, which slid as much as 91 cents, or 1.2 percent in early trade, reversed some losses and was down 59 cents at $74.89 a barrel by 1:58 a.m. EDT.




U.S. oil settled $1.38 lower at $75.48 a barrel on Friday, after hitting a record $78.77 on Wednesday.

Oil rises to $77 on increased US refinery demand

(Reuters) - Oil climbed to $77 and U.S. crude hit its highest in almost a year on Thursday on increasing demand from refiners in the world's top consumer.

At one point the rally lifted U.S. oil above London Brent for the first time since February, based on closing prices.

Corrected: Oil hovers at 11-month high on supply worries

(Reuters) - U.S. crude for August delivery was 6 cents higher at $73.99 a barrel -- a fresh 11-month high and getting nearer the record high of $78.40 set in July 2006.




Analysts and traders said oil prices are likely to creep higher on bullish demand sentiment and as political tensions in major producers Iran and Nigeria continue to persist.

GLOBAL MARKETS-U.S. stocks turn up, bonds slide

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 11 - U.S. stocks regained their
footing on Wednesday, as a scarcity of profit warnings sparked
hopes corporations would turn in solid quarterly reports, but
the upswing hurt bonds.




The first drop in U.S. crude oil supplies in six weeks and
a decision by Lehman Brothers to boost its share price target
for Exxon Mobile Corp. helped lift the oil giant's
shares 0.9 percent to $87.29.

RPT-US STOCKS-Oil sector, financials boost stock indexes

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 11 - U.S. stocks rose on
Wednesday, helped by gains in energy shares as oil prices
traded near $73 a barrel and financial shares rebounded a day
after falling on worries about the subprime mortgage industry.




Shares of Exxon Mobil Corp. , up 0.4 percent at
$86.82, also benefited from Lehman Brothers' increase in the
stock's price target. U.S. crude oil futures slipped but
were still trading at $72.90 a barrel. On Tuesday Brent crude
hit an 11-month high of $76.63 in London.

US STOCKS-Oil sector, financials lift stock indexes

(Reuters) - Shares of Exxon Mobil Corp. , up 0.3 percent at
$86.77, also benefited from Lehman Brothers' increase in the
stock price target. U.S. crude oil futures rose 4 cents
to $72.85 a barrel.




The S&P index of financial shares rose 0.4
percent, reversing Tuesday's drop of 2.2 percent, its worst
decline since mid-March.

Oil eases from 11-month high, supply worries persist

(Reuters) - London Brent crude , currently seen as a better indicator of the global market, eased 14 cents to $75.48 a barrel by 0637 GMT, within sight of Friday's $76.01 peak and near its all-time high of $78.65 a barrel one year ago on July 8.




U.S. crude fell 31 cents to $72.50 a barrel, still some distance from its record high of $78.40 touched on July 14, 2006.

Oil drops $1, eyes on US stocks, Nigeria exports

(Reuters) - Oil fell $1 a barrel on Tuesday as investors weighed ample fuel stocks in top consumer the United States and the potential for higher Nigerian crude exports.
