Global Stocks Drop; Investors Shun Risk as Credit Market Turmoil Worsens

(Bloomberg) -- Stocks tumbled around the world and
U.S. Treasuries rallied on concern higher borrowing costs will
slow takeovers, spur debt defaults and curb earnings, prompting
investors to flee riskier assets.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell to its lowest in almost
three months, while the FTSE 100's biggest drop in four years led
declines across Europe. Benchmark stock indexes in Argentina,
Brazil, Mexico, Turkey and Sweden sank more than 3 percent.

Turkish Stocks Jump Before Elections, Led by Akbank: World's Biggest Mover

(Bloomberg) -- Turkish stocks posted the biggest
gain this year, lifting the country's main index to a record, on
bets this weekend's elections will result in a single-party
government that will maintain economic growth.

Akbank TAS and Turkiye Is Bankasi AS, Turkey's two biggest
publicly traded banks, paced the advance.

Turkish Stocks Jump, Led by Isbank, Akbank: World's Biggest Mover

(Bloomberg) -- Turkey's benchmark stock index gained
for the first time in four days, paced by Turkiye Is Bankasi AS
and Akbank TAS.

The ISE National 100 Index added 863.31, or 1.7 percent, to
51,975.30 at midday in Istanbul as 84 stocks gained, six fell and
10 were unchanged.

Coca-Cola posts profit on emerging markets

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 17 - Coca-Cola Co. said on Tuesday second-quarter profit rose slightly, helped by strength in emerging markets such as China, Turkey, India and Brazil.



The world's largest soft-drink maker reported net income of $1.85 billion, or 80 cents per share, up less than 1 percent from $1.84 billion, or 78 cents per share, a year earlier.

REUTERS SUMMIT-S'pore GIC eyeing Russia, Vietnam, Turkey

(Reuters) - "The trend of wealth creation is shifting from the West to
the East and if you are positioning your strategy over the long
term, your strategy over the last 10 years would be different
for the next 10 years," said Seek Ngee Huat, president of GIC
Real Estate, speaking at the Reuters Real Estate Summit in
Singapore.




He said GIC had begun to "explore" Russia, Turkey and
Vietnam and was also looking to make significant investments in
India, where it last week announced a joint venture with
Mumbai-based property firm Runwal to build a $62 million mall.
He did not say how much investment might flow to those
countries.

Turkey's Garanti Bank starts talks in Ukraine

(Reuters) - Garanti, Turkey's third biggest listed bank by market
capitalisation, had said before it was looking to grow in the
region and in April said its board had authorised head office to
assess opportunities for regional expansion.
